    Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child 2019 - Our goal is to fill 200 boxes!

The Mission’s Team is organizing the collection of shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. This is an outreach of Samaritan's Purse, an international relief organization, that Leesburg UMC has been supporting for the past several years.  Our mission is to provide local partners around the world with shoe boxes filled with small toys, hygiene items, and school supplies as a means of reaching out to children in their own communities with the Good News of Jesus Christ. We ship these simple gifts outside the United States to children affected by war, poverty, natural disaster, famine, and disease; and to children living on Native American reservations in the U.S.

    How to participate:
Step 1:  Pick up a Box

Pick up an easy to assemble Operation Christmas Child box from the Missions Room located behind Wesley Hall.

    Step 2:  Girl or Boy?

Decide whether you will pack a box for a girl or a boy, and the age category: 2–4, 5–9, or 10–14.

    Step 3:  Fill the box!

Some gift ideas include:  small soccer balls with hand pumps, hair ties, t-shirts with no writing on them, Band-Aids, school supplies like pencils, paper, markers, crayons, erasers; soap and soap dishes; small flashlights with batteries; melamine plates, bowls, and cups; sunglasses, harmonicas, cars and trucks and other small toys and hygiene items.

Items not to include:  Candy; toothpaste; gum; used or damaged items; war-related items such as toy guns, knives, or military figures; chocolate or food; seeds; fruit rolls or other fruit snacks; drink mixes (powdered or liquid); liquids or lotions; medications or vitamins; breakable items such as snow globes or glass containers; aerosol cans.

Please note that in many cultures, animals have specific cultural significance, so stuffed animals may not be the best gift; also, anything that requires directions in English may not be useful.

    Step 4:  Pray

Pray for the child who will receive your gift.

Step 5:  Drop off the box

Please drop off your filled boxes in the Missions Room located behind Wesley Hall (along with a check for $9.00 to cover shipping) by November 3.  Checks should be made out to "Operation Christmas Child".

    Optional:

If you wish, you can make the $9.00 donation online (see link below) and print out a special Follow-Your-Box tracking label to attach to your shoe box.  You can then use the Samaritan's Purse Look-up Tool to find out the country where your box will be delivered with the message of Christ’s love.

    Follow your box
