Here’s What to Expect on Back to Church Sunday

Worship safely with LUMC on Back to Church Sunday.

by Church Office on September 06, 2021

The countdown to Back to Church Sunday is on! This September 19, Leesburg United Methodist Church is celebrating the national movement that invites us all to reconnect with church and become renewed, as we introduce more in-person and online worship and activities.

To say that things have changed over the past year and a half is an understatement. If you’ve worshipped at LUMC in-person before, if you haven’t visited in a while, or if this is the first time you’re visiting, here’s a rundown of what you can expect on Back to Church Sunday and moving forward. Some things will look the same, and others will look different than you’re used to. Regardless, we are so excited to welcome you!

Two Worship Services

For the past year and a half, there has only been one worship service, combining both contemporary and traditional music. We are excited to launch a reimagined worship service, Arise, at 9 am in the sanctuary with contemporary band Raising Praise. Chancel worship at 11 am features music from the choir and is in the sanctuary and livestreamed.

One Fellowship Hour

Meeting for light refreshments on Sundays is a beloved tradition! After the Arise service or before the Chancel service, head through the main doors of the church and out onto the patio. We’ll be serving up coffee, tea and snacks. On future Sundays, this will also be when different committees, volunteer groups and bible studies meet up.

Fellowship Hour

Renewed Virtual Connection and Growth

Join Reverend Heather for virtual Sunday morning fellowship once a month. If you aren't comfortable yet with in-person activities, find yourself on the sidelines of another sports tournament for your kids, or maybe just want to stay at home one morning but still want to connect with our community this event is for you. Immerse: Beginnings, a virtual Old Testament reading program, also kicks off!

Kids on Sundays

Kids are always welcome in worship! If you need a break, nursery is back on September 19 and every first Sunday thereafter. Children under the age of 5 can be dropped off from 9-12 at the nursery behind Wesley Hall. First-time visitors will fill out a simple registration. The older crew can join in our Kids and Youth Field Day on September 19 at Toby Atwell Field! Later youth will meet at Evergreen Sportsplex for an afternoon of adventure.

Health and Safety

Our Post-Covid Re-entry group, comprised of staff and health workers from the congregation, has been hard at work monitoring the latest updates on the COVID-19 pandemic. We’ve implemented a number of procedures to ensure that those celebrating Back to Church Sunday with us are safe and healthy.

Friendly Faces

It’s been a long time since we’ve all been in church in person together! If you’ve been watching our Sunday services online, welcome back! Lots has changed over the past year and a half, but one thing that hasn’t is that you’ll always see a friendly face when you’re here. We can’t wait to see you!
