Dear Leesburg United Methodist Church members and friends,
I pray you and your loved ones are well, in every sense of the word, as we live through these most incredible times. Before getting on to the news I am excited to share, let me say that I miss you all and our experience of worshiping together. It is my prayer that our livestream worship has brought you a weekly sense of connection with Christ and with one another through these months of separation. Thank you, all, for the encouragement you have shared, for your patience as we worked through early growing pains, and for your continued commitment to our shared ministry that is taking on new and different expressions due to COVID-19.
I especially want to thank all of our members who are helping to bring our livestream worship experience to you every Sunday. They have been amazing, as they have given their time to learn, rehearse, experiment, pray, prepare, trouble-shoot, and present what you see and hear each Sunday. I also want to thank the members of our staff who are learning and developing new ways and creative ways of ministry. It has been challenging!
Now for the good news! We are moving forward with phased plans to expand our in-person worship services, based on the experience we have had with our Neighborhood Groups. First, beginning Sunday, August 2, we will be gathering outdoors for in-person worship and Holy Communion in our Liberty Street parking lot (behind the sanctuary and the AG). This will take place each Sunday (weather permitting), in the evening, at 7 PM, and our worship will last about 30 minutes. We will maintain social distancing, all will need to wear masks, and advance registration will be required. More details to follow.
Second, our Healthy Church Team is developing our plan to regather for worship in our sanctuary. Our start date will depend on several factors including the approval of our plan by our District Superintendent and having enough volunteers to serve as greeters, ushers, and sanitizers.
Third, our youth continue to gather for service opportunities (on Mondays primarily, but also on other days), with, of course, appropriately-sized groups, social distancing, and masks. Contact Angela Becek or the church office if you are interested in participating.
And, speaking of serving, we have an immediate need for logistical help with our outdoor Sunday evening worship. If you can help with set-up, with greeting, or with ushering, please contact the church office: 703-777-2056, or . Also, if you are willing to help greet, usher, sanitize, etc., for our in-person worship, please contact the church office.
If you have any questions, any needs, or any concerns, please feel free to contact me. Remember as we live through this unprecedented time that we know we are not alone: “Fear not, for I am with you; Do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” (Isaiah 41:10).
Grace and peace,
Rev. Jim Wishmyer
