Re-Gathering for In-Person Worship at LUMC
Thank you, to all who responded rather quickly to our brief questionnaire last week! We received 56 email replies. These responses represented 107 of our worshiping attendance, including children and youth. Of the 56 replies, 8 indicated willingness to return to worship in Stage 1, and 48 indicated they would not return in Stage 1.
This translates into 14 persons who were ready to return, and 93 who were not. Many related their reluctance to attend in-person worship even during Phase 3/Stage 3 where all of the Stage 1 & 2 restrictions are lifted.
This week, Bishop Sharma Lewis announced that our Virginia United Methodist Churches could move to Stage 2 worship on June 21. I had already decided that we would wait until Stage 3 is announced for Leesburg UMC to re-gather for in-person worship. In Stage 3, all restrictions are lifted.
Since Stage 1 lasted about 4 weeks, I am assuming that we, United Methodists, will be under Stage 2 requirements for an additional 4 weeks, or until the 3rd Sunday in July. In speaking with the Arlington District Superintendent, all but a few smaller United Methodist Churches in the Alexandria and Arlington Districts will be waiting at least until end of July/early August to re-gather for in-person worship. After consulting with our Healthy Church Team last evening (Thursday), we will look to re-gather for in-person worship on the first Sunday in August, August 2.
Please pray for our leadership teams as we plan for our re-gathering in worship!
Stay safe, be blessed, and be a blessing!
