What We Believe

Leesburg United Methodist Church affirms the historic beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ as found in the ancient and historic Apostles’ Creed.

We believe in one God, who is love and the source of all love, revealed to humanity in the three-fold mystery we call “Trinity”: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that God is the creator of the universe and source of all life, who made humanity in the image of God; thus sacred and cherished by God. The image of God in humanity is marred by sin, resulting in alienation from God.

We believe that Jesus Christ, fully God and fully human, is the sinless and ultimate expression of God’s love who came to restore the image of God in us, and to save and reconcile the world to God.

We believe in the Holy Spirit at work in the lives of all Christians to renew our lives and the world. We believe the Church of Jesus Christ encompasses people of all nations and ethnicity, and that followers of Christ are tasked with sharing the news of God’s love so that all may know and be reconciled to God.

We believe God’s love, forgiveness, and grace are for everyone. We all are loved. We all have a place to belong – a place to call home, now and for eternity.

We believe we have found our spiritual home at LUMC, and invite you to make this your home as well.

As a United Methodist Church, Leesburg is part of the 12-million-strong global United Methodist Church that opens hearts, opens doors, and opens minds through active engagement with our world.

What are the Four Areas of Ministry Focus?

We believe, as Methodists have for almost 300 years, in the integration and intersection of faith and life. Love is the verb that puts faith in action; primarily through service.  We are a church rich in history and alive with opportunity in rapidly-growing Loudoun County.

Leesburg umc history

We believe that the Christian faith must be an action faith, motivated by love that moves us to serve God and to serve others. When we serve others, lives are transformed by the love that is shared. We believe God has called us to seek new and vital ways to connect, with God and with our community, forming relationships that grow faith in us and in others. That is love in action.
